Luana Lo Piccolo's Biography

Luana Lo Piccolo is one of Europe’s leading experts in artificial intelligence governance, technology law, and digital transformation, with over fourteen years of experience developed between Brussels and the international policy landscape. Holding a law degree with specialization in Legal Tech and AI, she has built strong expertise in global governance law and digital policy. Luana has developed a distinguished professional and academic career, becoming a reference figure in the regulation of emerging technologies.

She has played an active role in shaping major European AI policies, contributing to the drafting of strategic regulations such as the EU AI Act—a milestone in global AI governance—and the Digital Services Act, where she participated in hearings and proposed significant amendments. She also contributed to the drafting of the Code of Practice on Disinformation, later transformed into a Code of Conduct under the DSA, and to the first Code of Practice on Generative AI, anticipating international guidelines on transparency and technology ethics.

Selected as an independent expert by the European Commission, Luana has participated in high-level working groups and expert roundtables, including one chaired by French President Emmanuel Macron, where she brought her vision on AI regulation, ethics, and social impact. Her work has been recognized internationally, earning her awards such as Best Legal Strategist in Responsible AI & Regulatory Compliance by the Global Legal Association (2025) and Best Responsible AI Leader by the Responsible AI Institute (2024).

In addition to her strategic advisory work for corporations and institutions, Luana is deeply engaged in public education and awareness. She is a regular speaker at international conferences and forums dedicated to technological responsibility, supporting organizations in balancing innovation with ethical integrity. She has lectured at renowned universities, teaching on topics including regulatory compliance, ethical leadership, and AI governance.

As a global speaker, researcher, and advisor, her mission is to help organizations and governments navigate a rapidly evolving technological landscape—leveraging AI for competitive advantage while adopting an approach rooted in strategic vision, ethical integrity, and long-term sustainability.

Author of numerous academic papers and policy publications, Luana is currently completing a book exploring the apparent dichotomy between governance and innovation in AI, arguing that balanced regulation can serve as a competitive advantage rather than an obstacle to progress.
