Lukasz Larsson Warzecha's Biography

Lukasz Larsson Warzecha is an award-winning photographer and cinematographer known for his captivating adventure, science and conservation stories.

In his own words, his work connects the science-curious with the science-serious and bridges the gap between science and the general public. His work has been published in Science Magazine, The New York Times, Oceanographic Magazine, The Guardian, and many others. With almost two decades of experience exploring the world’s most remote corners, Lukasz has worked on assignments across six continents on stories that inform, inspire, and engage global audiences on our time’s most pressing environmental issues. Lukasz collaborated on communication and outreach projects with the European Space Agency, the European Commission, and other European research institutions. For the first decade of his commercial photography career, he shot multiple advertising campaigns for Red Bull, Stihl, Mountain Equipment, Marmot, The North Face, Petzl, Allianz, and National Geographic.

In 2022, he joined the production of a documentary series, ‘Lift the Ice’, as a Director of Photography. This premium scientific adventure docu-series follows six of the world’s most intrepid explorers and experts (featuring Diva Amon, among others) on a global mission to solve scientific puzzles that could radically reshape humanity’s future.

His long-term project ‘Stories Trapped in Ice’ is about the importance of ice cores and how they serve as an archive, frozen in time, underpinning humanity’s understanding of Earth’s climate history and the future of climate change. This work reveals the extraordinary effort scientists make to conduct research around the Earth’s poles.

While politicians, artists, and economists discuss climate change in our daily lives, few grasp the connection between our foundational understanding of climate science and the secrets and stories trapped in ice kilometres under our feet. According to the American Association for the Advancement of Science, his large-scale photo essay about ice core research, published in Science Magazine in February 2025, was a mustread. His current photo story, ‘The Moon and Beyond, ‘ is about innovation, problem-solving, and the characters and efforts driving modern-day space exploration.

A climber, alpinist, skier and technical scuba diver, his wide range of high-level technical abilities allowed him to focus on storytelling from ice climbing in the Canadian Rockies at -30 degrees C to scuba diving the notorious Bab-El-Mandeb strait and trekking through the jungle of Papua New Guinea. His public speaking engagements draw from his frontline experiences in climate change research, effectively communicating the critical importance of scientific progress and inspiring audiences to engage with environmental issues.
