Gregory Mone's Biography

Gregory Mone is a former technology columnist at Popular Science magazine, where he covered cosmology, robotics, AI, and the future for more than two decades.

Mone specializes in explaining complex topics for broad audiences through his books, essays, articles, and talks. He is the author of 21 books, including four New York Times bestsellers, that have been translated into 25 languages. He has given hundreds of invited talks at schools, companies, and conferences, including featured presentations at Google, MIT, the World Science Festival, and San Diego Comic Con.

Since 2015, he has collaborated with public intellectuals, brands, and thought leaders, including Neil deGrasse Tyson, Bill Nye, and Mattel, Inc. His private publishing and ghostwriting firm, 509 Press, has produced books for prominent investors and entrepreneurs.

The Mind’s Mirror: Risk and Reward in the Age of AI, his recent book with Daniela Rus, the director of MIT’s AI lab, was chosen for J.P. Morgan’s prestigious 2025 NextList. The Financial Times selected The Heart and the Chip: Our Bright Future with Robots, his first book with Rus, as one of its Best Books of 2024 in the Economics category.

A graduate of Harvard College, Mone has also published eleven novels and multiple works of science fiction. He surfs year-round and lives with his family on Martha’s Vineyard, an island off the coast of reality.
