Kate Strong's Biography

Kate Strong is a climate adventurer, multi world record breaker cyclist, age-group World Champion triathlete and ex aerospace engineer.

Coming to sport in her mid-thirties after leaving a toxic relationship, Kate wasted no time and was crowned age-group Australian National Champion and subsequently World Champion in triathlon within 18 months of taking up the sport.

Having to stop competitive sport due to an injury, she started exploring how to use sport as a vehicle for positive change, attempting to set a new world record on a static cycle – a male record existed, but no female equivalent.

After a first failed attempt, she set a world’s first female record for furthest distance on a static bike in 24 hours, and also broke the 1- and 12-hour records simultaneously.

Kate’s sporting career has evolved towards advocacy and engaging communities. In 2023, she completed Climate Cycle, a 3,300 mile bike ride around mainland Britain on a hand-made bamboo bike. During these three months, she visited 50 communities, charities, companies, initiatives and projects that are working towards mitigating climate change. These projects varied from nature-based solutions to innovative technologies removing microplastics from our waterways. She also worked in collaboration with two universities, one monitoring the air quality as she cycled around Britain and the other to explore the change behaviour required in individuals to tackle climate change.

Kate is organising a mass-participation world record attempt in March 2025, demonstrating the power of collective action.

Kate Strong's Speaking Topics

  • EMBRACING UNCERTAINTY: TURNING FEAR INTO OPPORTUNITY

In today’s fast-paced world, organisations and individuals face relentless pressure to adapt, innovate, and thrive amidst uncertainty. Kate Strong is a master of reinvention. From a successful career in aerospace engineering to owning hospitality businesses, consulting, and even becoming a paid athlete in her forties, Kate's journey exemplifies how to transform perceived threats into opportunities. Her ability to navigate change with agility and purpose offers invaluable insights into how individuals and businesses can not only survive but flourish in an ever-evolving landscape.

  • THE TRUE MEASUREMENT OF SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is a buzzword often used without clear meaning—yet its potential to drive business growth and future-proof industries is undeniable. Kate’s unconventional and leaves a minimal footprint: No car, no children, no flying, no meat & dairy, and even no permanent home. For nearly two years, she has embraced these ‘extreme’ sustainable practices. But is this truly sustainable? Perhaps the real measure of sustainability isn’t just reducing our footprint but addressing our climate shadow. Kate shares examples of her efforts to create positive and sustainable ripples—both direct and indirect—around the world. These include working with local communities in Central America to establish micro-businesses and supporting the development of a charity that aims to keep 1,000 Indian girls in education.

  • OVERCOMING ADVERSITY, MENTAL HEALTH & RESILIENCE

The journey to success is rarely linear. As Kate has learned, the higher we climb—whether physically or psychologically—the more challenges we also face. When an injury forced her to retire from competitive triathlon, Kate was confronted with the loss of her identity as an athlete - and a winner. Rather than allowing this setback to define her, she used it as a catalyst to redefine success through our values, rather than results. Drawing from her own experiences of emotional hardship and recovery, Kate offers practical tools for building mental strength and wellbeing, both in the workplace and in life.

Comments & Testimonials

It's been a pleasure and inspiration to support Kate in her static cycling world record attempts. Despite the emotional pressure in preparing for such an event, Kate was extremely organised and thoughtful when it came to coordinating our involvement in the event and our joint social media campaign. As sponsors we felt part of the team, not just a source of funds. If a similarly relevant event came up in the future, we would be very happy to collaborate with Kate again.
