Liam Halligan's Biography

Liam Halligan is an economist, writer and broadcaster – and also has extensive business experience. He is best known for his weekly Economics Agenda column in The Sunday Telegraph – which enjoys a large international following and has been recognized with a highly-coveted British Press Award.

Liam is also Editor-at-Large and columnist at Business New Europe – a leading source of English-language business, economics and political news and analysis covering 30 countries in Central, Eastern and Southeast Europe and the Former Soviet Union.

Between 2007 and 2013, Liam was Chief Economist at Prosperity Capital Management, the world’s largest Russia/CIS-focused asset manager, controlling investments worth over $4bn for a range of institutional clients from Europe, the US and the Middle East, including pension funds, insurance companies, charities and SWFs.

Liam has worked as a Moscow Reporter for The Economist and Economist Intelligence Unit, Political Correspondent for The Financial Times (based in Parliament) and Economics Correspondent at Channel 4 News, as well as writing a weekly column in Sunday Business, before switching to Sunday Telegraph in 2003.

He has researched, written and presented a series of hard-hitting Dispatches documentaries on economic and financial issues for Channel 4 and presented Wake up to Money on BBC’s Radio Five Live. His work has also appeared in The Spectator, New Statesman, Wall Street Journal, Prospect, Euromoney, Business New Europe and GQ Magazine – where he wrote a column between 2008 and 2011.
