Currently serving as the manager of the England women’s national team since September 2021, Sarina’s journey began as a central midfielder, later transitioning to a defensive role. Her early career saw her play for the University of North Carolina Tar Heels and the women’s team of Ter Leede. She brought her skills to the Netherlands’ national team from 1987 to 2001, gaining 104 caps, though an official count stands at 99 due to games against non-FIFA-affiliated opponents.

Sarina’s accomplishments aren’t limited to her playing career. After her retirement in 2003, she commenced her coaching journey with Ter Leede and ADO Den Haag. By 2014, she assumed the role of assistant national coach for the Dutch women’s team. Her leadership capabilities became evident when she steered the Dutch national team to a UEFA Women’s Euro 2017 win and brought them to the finals in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Her success with the Netherlands including winning the World Cup Final, earned her the esteemed role of managing England’s Lionesses, the women’s national team, succeeding Phil Neville. Under her guidance, the England team achieved victory at the UEFA Women’s Euro 2022 – a first for an English senior team since the men’s victory in the 1966 FIFA World Cup.

Sarina has won the FIFA Women’s Coach of the Year award four times (2017, 2020, 2022, 2023).
