Monty Halls's Biography

Monty Halls is an ex Royal Marines Officer, marine biologist, journalist and leadership consultant.

Having worked for Nelson Mandela during the peace process in the 90s, Monty went on to pursue a career in travel and expedition journalism which led him across the world. He has worked in documentary filmmaking and presenting including the BBC2 Series ‘Great Escapes’, the multi-award winning series ‘Great Barrier Reef’, Channel 4’s ‘My Family and the Galapagos’ and Discovery Channel’s ‘Lost World’s.

Along the way, he has led a multinational team to the discovery of a sunken near the Indian Coast; led three expeditions to investigate illegal poaching in Malawi and led one expedition to search for evidence of prehistoric settlements in cave systems in South Africa. He also qualified as a marine biologist and today sits as President of the Galapagos Conservation Trust.

In 2003, Monty was awarded the Bish Medal for services to exploration by the Scientific Exploration Society.

Monty has written multiple books and contributes to a wide-range of magazines and newspapers on the natural world. He is an Ambassador for various conservation groups and was awarded an honorary Doctorate by Plymouth University.
