Michelle Richmond Speaker Profile:

Michelle Richmond is an award winning, New York Times bestselling author, small press publisher, and experienced educator. Her novels include “Golden State,”(2014)  “The Year of Fog,”(2008)  “No One You Know,” (2009) and “Dream of the Blue Room,” (2010). Her story collections are “Hum,“(2014) winner of the Catherine Doctorow Innovative Fiction Prize, and “The Girl in the Fall-Away Dress,”(2012) winner of the Associated Writing Programs Award. She is the recipient of the Hillsdale Award for Fiction from the Fellowship of Southern Writers, the Mississippi Review Fiction Prize, the Walter E. Dakin Fellowship, as well as fellowships from the Whidbey Island Writers’ Colony, Saltonstall Arts Colony, and the Edna St. Vincent Millay Colony.Richmond is the founder and publisher of Fiction Attic Press and the creator of The Paperclip Method, a series of innovative workbooks for writers.
She has served on the Board of the Authors Guild since 2010, and has served as Distinguished Visiting Writer at St. Mary’s College of Moraga and Bowling Green State University. In 2012, she held the Catherine Julie Cunningham Chair at Notre Dame de Namur University. She has also taught in the MFA programs in creative writing at the University of San Francisco and California College of the Arts, in addition to teaching novel writing for Stanford Continuing Studies. She holds an MFA from the University of Miami, where she was a James Michener Fellow. Richmond’s essays on travel, literature, publishing, and parenting have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, The Telegraph, Coastal Living Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle Magazine, The Kenyon Review, and many anthologies. Her stories and essays have appeared in Glimmer Train, Playboy, The Kenyon Review, The Missouri Review, Best American Fantasy, and elsewhere.Richmond’s novel “The Year of Fog,” which has sold more than half a million copies worldwide, was a New York Times bestseller, as well as a major bestseller in France. It was named one of the Best Books of the Year by Library Journal, San Francisco Chronicle, and News of the World, and was a Kirkus Reviews Top Pick for Reading Groups and the 2011 selection of Silicon Valley Reads. Her books have been translated into ten languages.
