Hans Tietmeyer's Biography

Dr. Hans Tietmeyer is one of the world’s leading experts on global finance. He was President of the Bundesbank from 1993 to 1999, and during this time became Chairman of the G10 Group of Central Bank Governors.

From 2003 to 2011, he was Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors at the Bank for International Settlements, an independent inter-governmental organisation of central banks that aims to create international monetary and financial co-operation.

A key architect of the Euro, Dr. Tietmeyer helped initiate and promote the single currency.

During the 1980s, he served as Permanent Secretary in the Bundesministerium der Finanzen, where his responsibilities included financial policy, international monetary policy, EC matters and the preparation of world economic summits.
