Stian Westlake's Biography

Stian Westlake is Chief Executive of the Royal Statistical Society. His particular areas of interest include the measurement of innovation and its effects on productivity, the role of high-growth businesses in the economy, financial innovation and how government policy should respond to technological change.

Prior to his current position, he was adviser to various UK science and innovation ministers, an Executive Director at Nesta, the UK’s national foundation for innovation, a management consultant at McKinsey & Company and an official at HM Treasury.

Stian has co-written books (with Jonathan Haskel) including Capitalism Without Capital: The Rise of the Intangible Economy and Restarting the Future: How to Fix the Intangible Economy, the former of which was acclaimed by Bill Gates.
