Jack Perkowski's Biography
Jack Perkowski is the Founder and Chairman of JFP Holdings with 25+ years experience as a private equity and auto industry pioneer in China. Often called “Mr. China,” Jack is widely considered a leading expert on doing business in China. As a keynote speaker, he covers topics including US-China relations, China’s economy and market, China’s auto industry, among others, and speaks about his fascinating experiences throughout his career.
Jack worked on Wall Street for two decades, rising to head of investment banking at PaineWebber. Well before others recognized the significant role that China would play in the global economy, he spent three years investigating opportunities in Asia and China, and went on to found major industrial enterprise ASIMCO Technologies in 1994, which he built and ran for fifteen years.
Under his leadership, ASIMCO gained a reputation for developing local management and integrating a broad based China operation into the global economy. It featured three times in the Hewitt Associates’ “Ten Best Employers in China” list. In 2008, China Auto News named Jack one of “30 Outstanding Entrepreneurs in China’s Auto Components Industry over the 30 Years of Economic Reform,” the only foreigner to receive this distinction.
Jack is a Founding Shareholder, Director and senior management team member of Energy Supply Developers, LLC, a company formed to establish a complete value chain for the manufacture of batteries in the US.
As an expert in his field, Jack sits on several boards and committees. He serves on the China Advisory Council of world-leading auto supplier, Magna International Inc., on the Phoenix Motor Inc.’s Board of Directors, and on Northeastern University’s Center for Emerging Markets’ Board of Advisors. He is Chairman of Tianjin University’s International Advisory Board of Management and Economics; the Non-Executive Chairman of OC3 Entertainment, Inc. and the Non-Executive Chairman of Talkr, Inc.
He authored Managing the Dragon: How I’m Building a Billion Dollar Business in China, and writes regularly about ongoing developments in the country. His articles on China, its economy and developing a business in the country have been published in the Wall Street Journal and Forbes, among other publications, and Jack is regularly interviewed for his insights on CNN, CNBC, Fox, BBC, NPR, CCTV and CGTN.
Jack is a frequent keynote speaker to university and business school groups, corporate and industry conferences and leading professional organizations such as the Council on Foreign Relations, the Asia Society and the YPO.
In April 2009, Jack founded JFP Holdings, a merchant banking firm focused on China, where he now serves as Managing Partner. Jack and his wife, Carleen, have lived in Beijing since 1994.
Jack graduated Cum Laude from Yale and with High Distinction from the Harvard Business School where he was named a Baker Scholar. Jack was on one of the best football teams in Yale’s history and played in the famous 29-29 tie against Harvard, which Sports Illustrated called one of the most exciting college football games of all time, and even appeared in the movie, Harvard Beats Yale 29-29.
