Mind Matters: October's Spotlight on Mental Health

Vanessa Mittman
editor at Chartwell Speakers

October is Mental Health Awareness month and therefore an opportunity for companies to engage in deep and meaningful conversations with their employees about mental health and wellbeing.

Shifting Workplace Culture

Across various countries and industries, mental health hasn’t traditionally received much attention in the workplace. Work culture is often associated with long hours and high pressure to perform. Powering through a tough day quietly or staying late at the office, just to be seen, are still common workplace behaviours. However, mental health awareness is on the rise exposing a need for leaders to focus more on employee welfare.

Global Workforce Challenge

Mental health is clearly a global workforce challenge and it is encouraging to see more organisations address difficult topics such as burnout, stress and loneliness. Great steps forwards have been made but as things like technology continue to impact the workplace, there is still more that can be done to ensure employees are equipped to navigate these evolving challenges.
