Thomas Erikson's Biography

Thomas Erikson is a Swedish behaviourist and the best-selling author behind the Surrounded by… series, a publishing phenomenon that demystifies human behaviour and communication for a worldwide audience. His colour-coded model—made famous in Surrounded by Idiots—has equipped managers, teachers and teams on every continent with a common language for decoding personality clashes and building stronger relationships.

Guided by his mission “to make people’s lives easier, every day,” Erikson shows audiences how self-awareness is the starting point for clear, constructive dialogue. He blends vivid storytelling with practical diagnostics, translating psychology into instantly usable tools that raise engagement, sharpen feedback and accelerate team performance.

Each year Erikson delivers around 120 high-energy keynotes on behaviour, communication, self-awareness, manipulation, narcissism and leadership. From Coca-Cola and Microsoft to packed public theatres, his sessions provoke deep thinking—often punctuated by laughter as listeners recognise traits that hit close to home.

Working from his Stockholm home office, Erikson also mentors C-suite executives and entrepreneurs across Europe, providing tailored strategies for leading diverse, hybrid and cross-cultural teams. His latest title, Surrounded by Liars (2024), tackles deception in an AI-accelerated world, reinforcing his core belief: “You can’t change somebody else, but you can change yourself.”
