Paul Ormerod's Biography

Paul Ormerod is a best-selling behavioural economist and a world authority on the application of modern behavioural approaches to corporate, social and economic issues. As a former advisor to the Treasury Committee of the House of Commons, he also presents frequently on macro-economic trends in the world economy.

Paul has written three best-selling books: “Death of Economics” (1994), “Butterfly Economics” (1998) and “Why Most Things Fail” (2005), a Business Week US Business Book of the Year. His latest book, “Positive Linking: How Networks Can Revolutionise the World” (2012), described by the Sunday Times as a “big, clever read”, explores how our increasingly interconnected and networked world makes conventional strategies in both the corporate and public sectors increasingly likely to fail. In Paul’s view, completely different approaches and strategies are needed to achieve success.

During the 1980s, Paul founded the Henley Centre for Forecasting, which he built up and sold to Martin Sorrel’s WPP Group in 1992. More recently, Paul set up Volterra Partners LLP. He was elected a Fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences in 2006 and in 2009 was awarded a DSc honoris causa by the University of Durham for the “distinction of your contribution to economics”.
