Nick D'Aloisio's Biography

In 2011, at the age of 15, Nick D’Aloisio became one of the youngest ever entrepreneurs to attract venture capital in creating his web page summary app Summly. In early 2013 Nick sold Summly to Yahoo for $30 million, making Nick one of the world’s youngest self-made Millionaires. The enormous interest and curiosity among tech entrepreneurs and the public alike has since taken him all over the world to speak at events and on TV about how he came up with this innovative web application.

Nick sits in a generation of programmers who struggle to remember a time before iTunes or the birth of web 2.0. He received his first laptop at the age of nine and cut his teeth on animation software before moving through iMovie, Final Cut Express, and Final Cut Pro at his Wimbledon home. Though it was his discovery of algorithms from his FaceMood app which led him on the path to programming and designing Summly.

At the age of 12 Nick D’Aloisio downloaded the Apple App development kit and between 2008 and 2011 produced a string of apps. First came SongStumblr for sharing music with others both in the same room and globally; then FingerMill a treadmill exercise programme for your finger; then FaceMood which analysed key words in Facebook statuses to guess what mood they are in.

Despite all this success Nick has no intention of turning his back on school, and plans to continue his studies with the aims to study Philosophy at University. Nick also currently studies both Russian and Chinese.
