Jon Sopel's Biography

Jon Sopel is a highly respected international news presenter and political broadcaster. Having worked for the BBC for over 16 years Jon has covered a wealth of stories and interviewed top politicians and heads of state; his most recent interview was with the elusive Emir of Dubai. In February 2022, he announced he was joining LBC to host his podcast, Americast, with Emily Maitlis.

Between 2005 and 2012 Jon was the face of the BBC politics show. As well as being a respected political broadcaster, Jon was an anchorman for BBC news and in the past he has worked on Newsnight, BBC News at Six, BBC News at Ten as well as a number of radio broadcasts. His coverage of the Iraqi invasion from Kuwait was highly acclaimed.

Jon was shortlisted for National Presenter of the Year at the Royal Television Society Television Journalism Awards 2011/2012.
