Dr Anders Tegnell Keynote Speaker

Dr Anders Tegnell is a Swedish public health expert who led the country’s distinctive COVID-19 strategy. Across more than three decades, he has combined field work—from WHO-led vaccination programmes in Laos to combating Ebola in Zaire—with senior policy roles that bridge science and government.

As Sweden’s State Epidemiologist, he steered national responses to H1N1 influenza and COVID-19, emphasising long-term sustainability, voluntary compliance and real-time data analysis. Briefing the public daily, he directed teams of over 100 specialists in surveillance, vaccination and preparedness, and represented Sweden on the EU Health Security Committee and ECDC Advisory Forum. Today, as Senior Advisor at the Public Health Agency of Sweden, he leads international projects to strengthen health systems in Somalia, the Gulf States and Southern Africa while continuing to counsel the European Commission and WHO on global health security.

In 2023, Dr Tegnell published Tankar efter en pandemi (“Thoughts After a Pandemic”), a reflective account of Sweden’s COVID-19 response and its global implications. The book has since been translated into German (Der andere Weg, 2025) and acquired for Japanese publication. That same year, he was honoured with the BiotechBuilders Award for his steadfast leadership during the pandemic.

In 2024, Dr Tegnell launched a widely acclaimed lecture series titled “Daring to Stand Up for What You Believe In—When the Whole World Went Mad,” sharing insights on leadership, crisis communication and resilience. His presentations have resonated across industries, offering valuable lessons for navigating uncertainty and fostering public trust.
