Curtis Strange's Biography

Curtis Strange is a two-time US Open winner who has represented the US five times in the Ryder Cup and captained the team in 2002. He also spent more than 200 weeks in the top ten of the Official World Golf Rankings between 1986 and 1990.

Curtis’ greatest achievements include becoming the second man to win the US Open in consecutive years (1988-1989) and participating in six US Ryder Cup teams, including once as nonplaying Captain (2002). In addition to this, Curtis won 17 US PGA Tour events between 1979 and 1989, and was the first man in the history of golf to win more than $1m in official prize money in a calendar year (1988). During the late 1980s, he was considered to be among the best golfers in the world, leading the US PGA money list in three separate years (1985, 1987 and 1988) and voted PGA Player of the Year in 1988. Perhaps Curtis’ best round was the 62 he shot on the Old Course at St. Andrews in the Alfred Dunhill Cup in 1987.

In recent years, Curtis joined the Champions Tour (2005) and was hired as the lead golf analyst for ESPN/ABC (1997-2004 and 2008-present). In 2007, he was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame and in 2009 he was elected to the Hampton Roads Sports Hall of Fame, which honours contributions to sports in Virginia.
