Cal Ripken Jr.'s Biography

Cal Ripken Jr., otherwise known as ‘Iron Man’, is an American legendary baseball player. He earned the moniker from his incredible and historical position as shortstop. He began ‘the streak’ (the longest stretch of consecutive games totalling 2,632), and became recognised as a 19-Time-All-Star champion and two-time American League Most Valuable Player (1983). He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2007. 

His undeniably remarkable achievements are to be commended by his hard work and sheer devotion. Cal was known for his work ethic and perseverance that ultimately transformed him into a national icon, that has been described to have saved baseball from its darkest point. His actions are recognised as he is also a two-time Gold Glove Award winner who holds the unbeatable record for consecutive games played and surpassed Lou Gehrig’s streak of 2,130 that stood for 56 years. Cal brings his stories to life, sharing his values and lessons learnt along the way, showing how these are applicable to the business world, through his warm and witty presentations. 

As President and CEO of Ripken Baseball, Inc., which operates three baseball complexes, with the aim to help progress the love of baseball from a grassroots level. Additionally, the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, a non-profit organization (founded 2001) honorably named after Cal Sr., strives to deliver and embody the traits and qualities as a devoted coach and mentor; leadership, responsibility, work-ethic and healthy living. The Foundation offers transformational at-risk youth programmes, Youth Development Parks, multipurpose parks, creating safe opportunities for the youth to develop valuable life skills and mentalities. It enables them to make smart and good choices for their futures through team-building skills, communication and work-ethic. 

Cal is also a published author of “Play Baseball the Ripken Way” (2004),  “Parenting Young Athletes the Ripken Way: Ensuring the Best Experience for Your Kids in Any Sport” and “Get in the Game: 8 Elements of Perseverance That Make the Difference.His consistent leadership skills, commitment and work-ethic has made him not only a sporting legend, but an exceptional role-model and leading individual who continues to inspire and motivate his diverse audience.
