Tom Daley's Biography

Tom Daley OBE is a four-time Olympic medalist and World Champion Diver with over ten years of experience in national and international diving competitions. As an Olympic medalist, television personality and World Champion specialist in multiple diving events, Tom is a top-rated speaker in the industry.

In 2021, Tom won an Olympic gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in the Men’s synchronised 10m platform diving event. He also won gold for the synchronised platform at the FINA Diving World Cup and another gold at the European Championships in Japan and Budapest.

At the 2018 Australian Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, Tom & his diving partner, Daniel Goodfellow, took home a gold medal for the 10m synchronised event. He also won a combined four silver and two bronze medals at the FINA Diving World Series and World Aquatics Championships in the same period. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, he set a new Olympic record score of 571.85 during the preliminaries.  These triumphs resulted from Tom’s unwavering determination and effort that he injects into his work.

Alongside diving, Tom has built a successful career in media.  Tom’s media activities include his 2015 collaboration with Youtube personality Calum McSwiggan to relaunch the LGBT+ telephone helpline charity Switchboard, a guest appearance on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, and hosting the 2017 Attitude awards. In 2021 he delivered a thought-provoking Alternative Christmas message for Channel 4, and he was a mentor on two series of the British celebrity diving show Splash!.

Among his awards and honours, Tom is the proud holder of an Honorary Doctorate by the University of St Mark and St John in Plymouth.  The Plymouth City Council declared him an honoured member of the city and awarded him Freedom of the City. The European Aquatic Federation named him Athlete of the Year for men’s divers, and he is the only person to have won the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year award more than once.

He has also won The Herald Sports Personality of the Year three times, and has been awarded the BBC Radio’s Best Sports Star award, Man of the Year by Attitude magazine, and the Independent Influencer Award at the British LGBT Awards.  For his services to diving, LGBTQ+ rights and charity, Tom was appointed OBE at the 2022 New Years Honours awards.

Tom took up knitting and crocheting as a new hobby in March 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown began and unveiled an impressive Olympic-themed cardigan that he knitted while at the Olympic dive events.  He now has an online store called Made with Love that sells knit kits, with video demonstrations from him, for all experience levels from absolute beginner to advanced.

Since acquiring the moniker of Britain’s youngest diver at the age of 12 in 2007, Tom has achieved many titles, awards and recognitions for his contributions to diving and was dubbed the literal “poster boy” of the 2012 London Olympics. Tom is a remarkable and knowledgeable person who adds tremendous value to any speaking event.
