Paul Azinger's Biography

Paul Azinger led the US to Ryder Cup victory in 2008, having previously represented the US four times in the tournament.

The other highlights of his career came in both individual and team environments. His greatest individual achievement was joining the select list of ‘major’ golf champions after winning the 1993 US PGA Championship. Paul also won eleven other events on the US PGA Tour and two events on the European Tour, and spent almost 300 weeks in the top ten of the Official World Golf Ranking between 1988 and 1994. Meanwhile, he was a key part of the US Ryder Cup winning teams of 1991 and 1993, and masterminded his team’s success as captain in 2008, leading the US to victory for the first time in nine years.

Paul is the author of two books, ‘Zinger’ (1995, Harper Collins) which deals with his struggle with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, and ‘Cracking the Code’ (2010, Looking Glass Books) which recounts his leadership of the Ryder Cup Winning team in 2008 and how his leadership and team building techniques can be used in sports, business and beyond. In recent years, Paul has worked as an analyst on ESPN and ABC Sports Golf coverage (2005-present), where he has developed a reputation as an eloquent and perceptive commentator on the game. Paul is also an avid poker player and played in the 2006 and 2008 World Series of Poker.
