Nick Petrie's Biography

Nick Petrie, a celebrated American author known for his gripping Peter Ash thriller series. With a Master of Fine Arts in fiction from the University of Washington and a Hopwood Award for short fiction from the University of Michigan, Petrie’s talent for storytelling has been widely recognized.

Petrie’s short story At the Laundromat won the 2006 Short Story Contest in The Seattle Review, showcasing his early skill as a writer.  His debut novel, The Drifter introduced readers to the compelling and troubled veteran Peter Ash. The novel earned the ITW Thriller Award, the Barry Award, and nominations for the Edgar, Anthony, and Hammett Awards, firmly establishing Nick as a rising star in the thriller genre.

His subsequent books including Burning Bright, Light It Up, Tear It Down, The Wild One, The Breaker, and The Runaway have garnered critical acclaim, with Light It Up being named Best Thriller of 2018 by Apple Books.

Nick’s literary achievements also include being named one of Apple’s 10 Writers to Read in 2017 and receiving the 2016 Literary Award from the Wisconsin Library Association. His works are celebrated for their intense action, psychological depth, and richly drawn characters, resonating with readers and critics alike.
