Mollie Katzen Speaker Profile:

Mollie Katzen is an American chef, cookbook author and artist.  With over six million books in print, she is listed by the New York Times as one of the best-selling cookbook authors of all time. A 2007 inductee into the prestigious James Beard Cookbook Hall of Fame, and largely credited with moving healthful food from the fringe to the center of the American dinner plate, Katzen has been named by Health Magazine as one of The Five Women Who Changed the Way We Eat, and she has been a member of the faculty at Healthy Kitchens, Healthy Lives, the groundbreaking annual symposium hosted by The Culinary Institute of America and the Harvard School of Medicine, since its inception.

An engaging, Ivy League-educated speaker with a terrific storytelling style, Katzen has earned a reputation for entertaining, informing, and inspiring large (and small) audiences. A highlight of the myriad venues in which she has spoken include Harvard University, Harvard School of Public Health, National Association of Specialty Foods, National Association of College and University Food Services 50th Anniversary Conference, Smithsonian Institution, Museum of Natural History, Commonwealth Club, National Council on Aging, American Academy of Pediatrics, and Healthy Kitchens/Healthy Lives Conference.

Katzen is a charter member of the Harvard School of Public Health Nutrition Roundtable and an inaugural honoree of the Natural Health Hall of Fame. An award-winning illustrator and designer as well as best-selling cookbook author and popular public speaker, she is best known as the creator of the groundbreaking classics “Moosewood Cookbook” (1974), and “The Enchanted Broccoli Forest “(1982). Her other books include the award-winning children’s cookbook trilogy, “Pretend Soup” (1994), “Honest Pretzels” (2009), and “Salad People; Vegetable Heaven” (1997 (winner of the International Cookbook Revue Best in Category award); “Sunlight Café “(2002) ; “Eat, Drink, & Weigh Less” (2007 with Walter Willett, MD of Harvard); the best-selling “The Vegetable Dishes I Can’t Live Without” (2007), “Get Cooking” (2009) with 125 fool-proof basic recipes for soups, pasta, chicken, meat, vegan dishes, and desserts, and “The New Moosewood Cookbook” (2000).

Since 2003, Katzen has been a consultant to Harvard University Dining Services, and co-creator of their new Food Literacy Project. She is also a culinary advisor to the University of California at Berkeley and a contributing editor at Shape magazine.
