Max Abrahms's Biography

Dr. Max Abrahms is a tenured professor of political science and public policy at Northeastern University. He is also a faculty affiliate in Jewish Studies; the Global Resilience Institute; Security and Resilience Studies; and International Affairs.

Abrahms has published extensively on terrorism and other international security issues in the leading academic venues as well as more popular outlets such as the New York TimesUSA TodayAtlantic, and Los Angeles Times. He frequently fields questions about the contemporary terrorism landscape in the news and for government agencies.

At Northeastern, Abrahms teaches undergraduate and graduate courses about terrorism and international security more generally. He has held numerous affiliations with the Center for International Security and Cooperation at Stanford University, the Empirical Studies of Conflict project at Princeton University, the Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth College, the Council on Foreign Relations, the Combating Terrorism Center at West Point Military Academy, the Center for Cyber and Homeland Security at George Washington University, the Moshe Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University, the economics department at Bar Ilan University, the Observer Research Foundation in New Delhi, the political science department at Johns Hopkins University, and the Belfer Center at Harvard University.

His book, Rules for Rebels: The Science of Victory in Militant History, explains why the conventional wisdom about Islamic State was wrong.
