Langley Sharp's Biography
Lieutenant Colonel (Retd.) Langley Sharp MBE is the former Head of the British Army’s Centre for Army Leadership. He is a sought-after keynote speaker on leadership and team performance.
Langley served in the British Army for 23 years. He began as an officer in the Parachute Regiment, having graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, and was deployed to Afghanistan, Iraq, Macedonia and Northern Ireland. During his military career, he led a counter-insurgence Task Force operation, commanded a Parachute Regiment Battalion, and delivered the London 2012 Olympics venue security training programme for the Ministry of Defence – for which he was awarded an MBE. As Head of the Centre for Army Leadership, he was responsible for championing leadership excellence across the British Army.
Langley is the author of the British Army’s official account of leadership, The Habit of Excellence, distilling over three centuries of experience and understanding of what the Army considers its ‘principle professional competency’. His career provides a unique combination of ‘art and science’; ‘art’ having extensive combat experience with some of the world’s elite military units, and ‘science’ through a rich understanding of leadership philosophy that blends military history, sport, business and academia. In so doing, he is able to effectively distil and translate the essence of leading and leadership from one of the world’s most revered institutions.
As Founder and Director of the consultancy firm Frontier Leadership, Langley is now dedicated to sharing his experiences to help individuals, teams and organisations perform at their best. He is a passionate believer in the power of leadership as a force multiplier for social good.
