Jon White's Biography

Jon White’s journey from a Royal Marine to a top-level para-athlete and inspirational speaker showcases extraordinary resilience and determination. Raised in a military family, Jon was inspired by his father, John, a 25-year Royal Marines veteran. At 14, Jon aimed to become a Royal Marine, a goal he pursued relentlessly.

Jon started his training at the Royal Marines Young Officer Training in September 2002, aged 19. His military career included roles such as Troop Commander and Company Second-in-Command. He also specialized as a Mountain Leader, known for its rigorous training. His final command was leading the 40 Commando Reconnaissance Troop.

In June 2010, Jon’s life changed while on patrol in Afghanistan. He stepped on an Improvised Explosive Device, losing three limbs. This event began a new chapter in his life, marked by indomitable spirit and willpower.

Jon embarked on a recovery journey, turning his focus to para-athletics. He became a celebrated figure in Marathon Canoeing and Ocean Racing Canoeing, representing Great Britain internationally. His completion of the Devizes to Westminster Kayak Race in April 2012, with Colour Sergeant Lee Waters Royal Marines, was a notable achievement. They completed the race in just over 28 hours, earning the Gluckstein Trophy.

As a speaker, Jon White leverages his experience of triumphing over adversity to inspire and motivate others.

Today, Jon is a devoted husband and father of two. He aspires to compete in the 200m Sprint Kayak event at the 2024 Paris and 2028 Paralympics. His transition from a war hero to a sporting hero continues to inspire. Jon’s story shows that a strong will and a sharp mind can overcome great obstacles.
