Jeremy Paxman's Biography

Jeremy Paxman is considered by many to be the most outstanding British journalist of his generation, famous for his forthright interviewing style and witty sense of humour. Jeremy has received numerous broadcasting awards, twice winning the Richard Dimbleby Award, Bafta’s most prestigious award for current affairs.

A household name in the UK, he combines a no-nonsense style when interrogating politicians on Newsnight which he anchored from 1989 to 2014. He presents with a much lighter touch on University Challenge, a quiz show for university students.

Since starting his career at the BBC in 1972, Jeremy has worked for the most successful news programmes there, including Tonight, Panorama and Newsnight. As a foreign correspondent he has covered conflicts in Lebanon, Uganda and Central America.

Jeremy Paxman has interviewed almost every prominent British politician over the last two decades, as well as many very prominent international figures. He is a highly respected conference host and facilitator; using his unique skills and experience, he brings his high energy style to the role and is superb at keeping the conference focus on track.

A graduate of Cambridge University, Jeremy has published several books on British history and politics, among them: “Friends in High Places: Who Runs Britain?” (1991), “The English: A Portrait of a People” (1999), “On Royalty” (2006) and “Empire: What Ruling the World Did to the British” (2011).
