Jana Revedin's Biography

Jana Revedin, born in Constance, Germany, is a prominent architect, theorist, and writer. Renowned for her vast contributions to the realm of architectural and urban sciences, she is a distinguished voice on sustainable architecture and urban design. Jana has etched her expertise in academia and practice, often speaking about the role of public space, the significance of participatory design, and the ethos of the early German reform movement of the Bauhaus.

Jana’s academic endeavors took flight at institutions such as Belgrano University Buenos Aires, Princeton School of Architecture, and Milan Polytechnic University. Her association with IUAV Venice, especially as an assistant to the esteemed Aldo Rossi, deepened her insights into public spaces and their democratic implications. Further, she holds the title of Full Professor at the École spéciale d’architecture in Paris. Her other affiliations include the CNRS Research Laboratory LAURE, the UNESCO Education and Research Commission of the UIA, the Board of ENSAP Bordeaux, Forschungsinitiative Zukunft Bau Berlin, and the scientific Board of the Societé du Grand Paris.

In 1996, Venice saw the inception of her architectural practice. Subsequently, in 2005, she laid the foundation for the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture, celebrated under UNESCO’s auspices, aiming to recognize pioneers in sustainable architectural innovations.

Jana’s accolades are numerous. Highlights include her win at the AESOP Prize for Teaching Excellence in 2013 and securing the Global Prize of the Urban Revitalization of Mass Housing competition by UN Habitat in 2014. She received the honor of Chevalier des Arts et lettres in 2014 and was conferred with prestigious medals by the French Academy of Architecture in subsequent years. In a significant 2022 milestone, she joined the French Academy of Architecture and curated the International Exposition at the Architecture Biennale Versailles.
