Geoff Hurst's Biography

Sir Geoff Hurst MBE is an iconic figure in international sport. A former England international footballer, he remains the only player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final as England recorded a 4–2 victory over West Germany at the old Wembley in 1966. In total he scored 24 goals in 49 England appearances, and as well success in the 1966 World Cup he also appeared at UEFA Euro 1968 and the 1970 FIFA World Cup.

After 16 years he retired from top flight soccer, and after enjoying a brief spell in football management he started his own motor warranty business with fellow team mate Martin Peters. Over the next 20 years he was to build a successful career in the insurance business before retiring in 2002. In his autobiography, “1966 and All That” (Headline, 2001) Sir Geoff paints a vivid portrait of his new life on the road.

As Director of Football for McDonalds UK, he has helped create 10,000 new football coaches, coaching children across the UK. He is still actively involved in a number of programmes aimed at encouraging kids to be active and to enjoy football at a young age. Sir Geoff was awarded an MBE in 1977 and in 1998 was knighted for 30 years of service and contribution to football. He was inducted in the English Football Hall of Fame in 2004 and in 2009 football fans across the UK voted for him to receive the Lifetime Achievement award at the International Football Awards.
