Gelong Thubten's Biography

Gelong Thubten is a Buddhist monk, author, and one of the UK’s most influential meditation teachers, with over 30 years of experience. He has spent more than six years in intensive meditation retreats, including a four-year retreat involving five months of silence. A thought leader in the mindfulness movement, Thubten has spent over two decades delivering transformative keynotes and mindfulness training across the world. His unique approach blends deep spiritual wisdom with practical techniques, helping audiences cultivate resilience, focus, and emotional well-being in today’s high-pressure environments.

Thubten has lectured at Oxford University and the United Nations and works extensively with leading global organisations. He has delivered mindfulness programmes for major companies, including Google, LinkedIn, and Deloitte, and has spoken at leading financial institutions such as HSBC and top law firms like Clifford Chance. A pioneer in bringing mindfulness to the medical field, he designed courses for medical students and has worked with hospitals, schools, and prisons to integrate mindfulness into daily practice. His ability to demystify meditation and apply it to real-world challenges has made him one of the most sought-after speakers in his field.

His work extends to the entertainment industry—Thubten trained the lead actors in meditation on the set of Marvel’s Doctor Strange and regularly speaks at major cultural events, including Hay Literary Festival, Womad, BST Hyde Park, CarFest, and Untold. His Sunday Times bestselling book, A Monk’s Guide to Happiness, is published in over 17 countries, and his latest book, Handbook for Hard Times (2023), has also become a bestseller. He co-authored How to Be Human with Ruby Wax and neuroscientist Ash Ranpura, bringing together mindfulness, comedy, and neuroscience.

As a director of ROKPA International, a humanitarian aid charity, and several meditation centres, Thubten remains deeply committed to making mindfulness accessible to all. His inspiring and practical keynotes leave audiences with actionable tools to cultivate inner strength, compassion, and focus in both personal and professional life.
