Édouard Philippe's Biography
Édouard Philippe is the former Prime Minister of France and a popular speaker on French and European politics and economics.
He was appointed Prime Minister by Emmanuel Macron in 2017, a position he held until 2020, when he was re-elected Mayor of Le Havre and President of the urban community Le Havre Seine Métropole. He had previously held this office from 2010 until 2017.
He is a former member of the Union for a Popular Movement (UMP), which later became the Republicans (LR). He was appointed General Director of Services in 2002. A lawyer at the Paris bar, he joined the law firm Debevoise and Plimpton LLP in 2005 and then became Director of Public Affairs at Areva from 2007 to 2010.
He has been the President of the International Association of Cities and Ports (IACP) since 2021 and is the founding president of the Horizons party and a director of the company Atos.
Édouard graduated from Sciences-Po and began his professional career as a member of the Council of State. He has written several novels including Impressions et lignes claires (2021), Des hommes qui lisent (2017), Dans l’ombre (2011) and L’heure de vérité (2007).
