Dino Sofos's Biography

Dino Sofos is the creative genius behind some of the UK’s most popular news and current affairs podcasts, earning him substantial influence in the British broadcasting news landscape, as noted by Deadline Hollywood. Sofos’ innovative approach has led him to invite some of the most respected journalists into the podcasting arena, including Emily Maitlis, Laura Kuenssberg, and Jon Sopel.

During his impactful fourteen-year tenure at the BBC, Sofos was praised by The Times for “ushering in a podcasting revolution.” He was instrumental in pioneering original formats that engaged millions of listeners. Notable among these were the BBC’s Brexitcast, Americast, and the daily Newscast, which collectively amassed 85 million downloads while he was Editor of BBC News Podcasts. Sofos demonstrated his innovative capabilities by successfully transitioning Brexitcast to television on BBC One in 2019, a first for any current affairs podcast.

Sofos decided to leave the BBC in 2021 to establish his production company, Persephonica. The company’s debut title was the podcast “At Your Service,” featuring music artist Dua Lipa. Following this success, Sofos announced the launch of a new daily podcast titled “The News Agents.” The podcast, hosted by Maitlis, Sopel, and Lewis Goodall in partnership with Global, has quickly become the most popular daily news podcast in the UK, with a staggering 24 million downloads in its first seven months.

Throughout his career, Sofos has exemplified the power of innovative storytelling, transforming the way news and current affairs are consumed. His continued work with Persephonica looks to build on this tradition, bringing fresh voices and perspectives to listeners across the UK and beyond.
