Camille Herron's Biography
Camille Herron is a world-renowned ultrarunner and a multiple world record holder.
Back in university, Camille was a talented track and field and cross-country runner. Attributing her toughness and athletic ability to her grandfather, who earned two Purple Hearts in World War II, and her father who played college basketball at Oklahoma State University for Henry Iba, three-time Olympic team coach.
But it was when Camille’s family lost their home and possessions in the 1999 Oklahoma tornado, that she realised she had the aptitude for long distance running. Herron started going on long Sundays runs to celebrate her life following the tragedy and credits them for taking her running to the next level.
At the start of her decade in ultramarathons, Camille represented the USA at the 2011 Pan American Games. In 2015, she took home 5 USA title wins in the 50km road, 50-mile road, 100km road, 100km trail and 100-mile road categories.
Camille is the first and only athlete to win all three of the International Association of Ultrarunners’ (IAU) 50K, 100K, and 24-Hour World Championships. Two of which she won in the same year. Herron also holds the women’s ultrarunning records for the greatest distance run in 12-hour and 24-hour time frames and is a four-time IAU International Runner of the Year.
Camille Herron’s first world record was set in 2015 with a time of 5:38:41 clocked over 50 miles at the Fall 50 race. To date, Camille Herron has broken 11 world records and plans to cinch more. Reportedly the youngest woman to run 100,000 miles, Camille is known for her signature style of running with her hair down. She even drinks beer and sometimes eat tacos during her ultramarathons.
Having persevered through all sorts of pain, immense fatigue and various running injuries, Camille is an expert on positive mindset and endurance training. She also regularly shares tips on how to run freely and tap into your inner power.
Camille Herron was formerly a Research Assistant at the University of Oklahoma. Her graduation research thesis on how to enhance bone recovery and optimise mechanical stress for bone health formed the foundation of her training philosophy.
