Bryan Robson's Biography

OBE award recipient Bryan Robson is the longest ever serving captain at Manchester United. He began his footballing career in the early 1970’s and went on to cultivate an almost thirteen yearlong place at Manchester United. He is widely remembered as a fearless and inspirational player and captain, whose presence lifted team-mates and intimidated opponents.

Bryan began his playing career as a trainee with West Bromwich Albion in 1974, before Ron Atkinson signed him for Manchester United in 1981. He went on to win two FA Premiership winners medals along the way and, in 2011, he was voted the “Best Manchester United Player of All Time.”

In 1979 he made his England under-21 debut, and in 1980 he made a full international debut with his first appearance at Wembley. Robson represented England a total of 90 times, making him the sixth most capped England player of all-time, 65 of them as Captain. He has also been honoured as an inductee into the English Football Hall of Fame, and remains one of the most popular footballers and specialist football speakers on the roster.

He moved into a management role in 1997, where he played an integral part in turning around the fortunes of a number of teams close to relegation, including West Bromwich Albion. He has also been involved in the coaching and management of the Thailand international team, until he resigned in 2011. In 2011 it was revealed that, whilst working as a football speaker and manager in Asia, Robson underwent surgery  for throat cancer.

Following this, Robson returned to the UK and was nominated as global ambassador for Manchester United. He has also written an autobiography, “Robbo,” where he reveals fascinating insights into his days with the England and United camps, and candidly reflects on the highs and lows of his football life.
