Bethany Allen's Biography
Bethany Allen is the Head of China Investigations and Analysis at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, and author of Beijing Rules: How China Weaponized Its Economy to Confront the World, listed by the Financial Times as one of the top business books of the year.
She was previously a staff editor and contributing reporter at Foreign Policy magazine, where she wrote investigations, deeply reported narratives, and analysis related to China.
She previously worked as the lead reporter for the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists’ China Cables project, and as a reporter and editor at Foreign Policy magazine. In 2020 she received the Robert D. G. Lewis Watchdog Award and was a finalist for the Batten Medal for Courage in Journalism. A fluent Mandarin speaker, she previously lived in China for four years and Washington, DC for eight years. She now lives in Taipei.
