Arkady Ostrovsky's Biography
Dr. Arkady Ostrovsky is the Russia and Eastern Europe Editor for The Economist. He moderates and speaks at events. His subjects include US-Russia relations, the war in Ukraine, international security, Russia and China, Russia and Turkey, Caucasus, Russia’s domestic politics, business and economy, domestic Ukrainian affairs and media.
Arkady is the author of ‘ The Invention of Russia: The Rise of Putin And The Age of Fake News.’ Available from Atlantic Books in the UK and from Viking in the US. This book was selected as one of the top 20 History Books chosen by Amazon Editors. He was the winner of the 2016 Orwell Prize. He wrote and narrated a popular eight part podcast with The Economist called ‘Next Year in Moscow’ – it explores views and ideas for Russia’s future. It has attracted more than 500,000 listeners to date
London based, Russian-born, Arkady spent fifteen years reporting from Moscow, first for the Financial Times and then as bureau chief for The Economist. He studied Russian theater history in Moscow and holds a Ph.D. in English literature from Cambridge
