Angela Rippon's Biography

Angela Rippon CBE, a distinguished journalist and broadcaster, has been a prominent figure in British media for over 50 years. Renowned for her versatility and excellence in journalism, Angela’s speaking topics include broadcasting, journalism, and dementia care. Her remarkable career encompasses a range of programs on radio and television across the UK, USA, and Australia.

Angela’s significant contributions to the field were acknowledged when she was inducted into the Royal Television Society’s Hall of Fame in 1996. Further recognition of her impact came in 2002, when she was voted European Woman of Achievement, and in 2004, she was honored with an OBE for her services to Broadcasting, Charity, and the Arts. Her dedication to dementia care led to her appointment as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours.

Angela’s journey in journalism began in her hometown of Plymouth, working for BBC Plymouth and Westward Television. In 1973, she joined BBC National News, and in 1975, she broke new ground as the first woman journalist newsreader. Her career flourished with memorable roles in shows like Come Dancing, Top Gear, and the Antiques Roadshow. In 1982, Angela co-founded the commercial breakfast service TV-am and later moved to America to work for CBS in Boston.

The scope and quality of her work has been recognised by the Royal Television Society who entered her into their Hall of Fame in 1996. In 2002 she was voted European Woman of Achievement and in the Queen’s Birthday Honours of 2004 she was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to Broadcasting, Charity and the Arts. Angela was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the 2017 New Year Honours for services to dementia care in her role as development lead with Dementia Friendly Communities.

Currently, Angela presents BBC’s Rip-Off Britain and contributes to The One Show. She also hosts HealthCheck UK Live on BBC One, providing health advice during the COVID-19 crisis. Her versatility extends to hosting the game show The Wall on BBC One.

Angela’s investigative work in How to Stay Young and The Truth About Dementia on BBC One highlights her commitment to health and wellbeing. She also championed Alexander Fleming’s discovery of antibiotics on BBC Two’s Britain’s Greatest Invention in 2017.

A prolific author, Angela has written 14 books, including the notable “Fabulous at Fifty and Beyond.” Her role as Vice President of the British Red Cross and participation in Comic Relief’s Famous, Rich and in the Slums exhibit her dedication to charity.

With her expertise in conference and seminar hosting, Angela is a skilled facilitator and after-dinner speaker, sought after for her experience and engaging presence.
