How will the energy crisis end?
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos referred to the “World’s First Energy Crisis” amid a global energy landscape that has been materially reshaped by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. While the 1970s saw an oil crisis, the world now faces an oil, natural gas and coal crisis all at the same time.
As Western governments have been prompted to reduce their dependence on Russian energy, there is an ever sharper focus on bringing in energy from other sources, as well as looking to a future that moves away from fossil fuels.
Soaring energy prices have in turn contributed to record levels of inflation and the consequent cost of living crisis. While energy independence, particularly in Europe, has been moved to the top of the agenda, experts believe that a global, collaborative approach, will be necessary to solve the crisis and increase energy security into the future.
