Andrew Barnes: Founder of 4 Day Week Global

Henry Ford’s 5-day working week is now almost 100 years old. The American industrialist’s decision to pay his workers the same wage to work one day fewer was groundbreaking in 1926. But now some experts are asking if the concept is outdated. Chief among these thinkers is Andrew Barnes, Founder of 4 Day Week Global.

In 2018 Barnes’ company, Perpetual Global, moved to a 4-day working week after a successful trial period. Academics studying the trial said staff reported lower stress levels, higher levels of job satisfaction and an improved sense of work-life balance. Most importantly, workers got more done.

Barnes’ movement has already received widespread press in his home country of New Zealand. Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern encouraged every employer to think about it. Now Barnes is on a mission to take his movement global. He has already launched pilot programs in the United Kingdom, United States and South Africa.
